3 Reasons to Try Mindful Vinyasa Yoga

With Power Vinyasa yoga classes becoming more and more popular, it’s becoming increasingly more difficult to find a yoga class truly suitable for all levels. Mindful Vinyasa Yoga moves at a slow to medium pace, encouraging students to move at the pace that best suits their individual practice. Yoga was originally created as a way for yogis to deepen their meditation practice, not to achieve a physical pose.  Mindful Vinyasa Yoga classes aim to go back to the heart of yoga and its creation, providing students the mental benefits to practicing yoga, not just the physical. Here are 3 reasons why you should try out Mindful Vinyasa Yoga:

  1. Connect back to the heart of yoga.

Yoga was originally created as a way for yogis to deepen their meditation practice.  Sitting down in an upright position takes a lot of internal strength, particularly in your core.  Yogis would use yoga postures as a way to strengthen their bodies for extended meditations.  While yoga does provide many physical benefits to students, its original purpose was to strengthen the mind.  In a Mindful Vinyasa Yoga class, we go back to the root of yoga, practicing to reap the mental benefits of yoga. In particular, we focus on releasing stress out of our minds, tuning into our emotions, and improving our ability to focus.

2. Release stress being held in the body.

That’s right.  All that stress you feel gets stored deep into your muscles. If we repress our stress without ever dealing with it, it gets stored into different areas of our body.  Over time, this can start to come to light in the form of aches and pains with no apparent physical cause. In our Mindful Vinyasa Yoga classes, we will focus on stretching the areas of the body where stress is most likely to be stored.  While individual to every person, common areas for your body to store stress include the lower back, the hips and hamstrings, and the shoulders.  Each of our Mindful Vinyasa Yoga classes are 60 minutes long, giving us enough time to stretch into each of these parts of the body, releasing repressed emotions along the way.

3. Improve your ability to focus.

The average human attention span keeps getting shorter and shorter.  Technology, phones, and the internet are designed to make us lose attention quicker. Mindfulness is the practice of becoming aware.  During our mindfulness practice, we work on maintaining our focus on our breath and our bodily sensations, releasing any thoughts that come to mind not related to our yoga practice. When you first begin this practice, you may find it difficult to focus your mind only on your breath.  Your mind will likely become fatigued early on. Signs of this will include getting carried away by your thoughts or finding yourself swept up in a daydream. With each class, you’ll find that your mind's ability to focus only on your breath and your yoga practice on the mat will become increasingly better.
